Are Rosenshine’s Principles anything new? Or just common sense?

In the UK, Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, popularised via a 2012 edition of American Educator magazine, have had significant reach into schools, forming the basis of a lot of training events. This session will explore what the principles are, why they’re popular and tackle the notion that they are ‘just common sense’.


Tom was a physics and maths teacher and school leader for 30 years, including 11 as a Headteacher. He is now a consultant supporting schools with professional development programmes and curriculum design and is regular speaker at conferences. He is the author of The Learning Rainforest and Rosenshine’s Principles in Action as well as the popular blog
